FC Copa's Sock Drive - a HUGE SUCCESS for those in need! posted 12/23/2011 by FC Copa
FC Copa recently coordinated a sock drive with United Healthcare (UHC) to benefit a local homeless shelter!
The goal was to collect 250 pairs of socks. On December 16, FC Copa delivered 380 pairs of socks collected at training sessions and games, shattering the goal which was initially set! In all, UHC and FC Copa collected 686 pairs of socks that were graciously accepted by the shelter.
Our new U10 Girl's team, FC Copa Lima, lead the club by collecting the most pairs for any team - 174! Special thanks to Lima members Amara, Emma, Kaya, Morgan and Hanna for their dedication to this project.
"Drives like this are important to members of the communities where we work and live." states Steve Jurcsek, FC Copa's Director of Community Service. He continued "Our club's strong dedication to community service incorporates this sense of compassion for those less fortunate than us. We warm the hearts of others during the year, we have now taken steps to warm their SOLES."
Many thanks to all of the FC Copa families for your support in this and all of our community service efforts.
FC Copa Boca U18 & Azteca U17 Play International Games in Canada posted 12/18/2011 by FC Copa
After reaching the finals of the Sigma College Showcase Invitational, the FC Copa Boca U18B and Azteca U17B return home from this international trip full of great experiences on and off the field!
FC Copa returned on Sunday from traveling north with 35 players as two of its college bound teams headed to Toronto Canada to compete in the 2011 College Invitational Showcase hosted by one of Canada's Academies, Simga FC.
Consistent with our focus on the continual development of our players, we were honored to be invited by Sigma FC Academy to compete in this year's invitational where over 60 collegiate coaches were in attendance. In a unique showcase, at the Mississagua Hershey Sports Complex, the focus from the collegiate coaches is on one game at a time which is played on an international full size indoor soccer field.
This year the invitational hosted top Canadian Academy and Club teams such as Toronto FC (the academy team of the MLS pro team), FC London, Bryst Football Academy, and host Sigma FC. The FC Copa Azteca U17B went 1-2-1 with some great solid second games each day.
The exposure to top Canadian players and teams brought out high level competitive games from FC Copa as they fell short on 2 of the games played vs Sigma and FC London. The U18B Boca impressed the coaches in attendance by reaching the final and finishing with an undefeated record of 2-0-2. With an technically focused match vs a very good Sigma team, which they had faced at the Score Showcase in NC this past summer, the FC Copa Boca faced the MLS Academy team Toronto FC in the final game which ended in a tie of 2-2 after an exciting comeback from a 0-2 goal differential by FC Copa Boca.
"This invitational showcase was truly something unique for many reasons but most of all it was a historic event for FC Copa as it was the first time we have traveled with a group of teams to playing Canada. The competition was impressive and the experience on and off the field for our players and coach staff was exceptional. We have been invited to return next year and plan to make this a yearly event on our showcase schedule" commented Roberto Aguas, Director of Player Development for FC Copa.

We look forward to having our proven development program benefit new youth players.
FC Copa partners with United Healthcare to help those in need! posted 11/30/2011 by FC Copa
Help the needy this winter by donating a new pair of socks.
Join US in making a DIFFERENCE!
In a continued effort to expand the support of our FC Copa family to those less fortunate, we have partnered with United Healthcare on a sock drive to be donated to homeless families around the state.
Stephen Jurcsek, FC Copa's Director of Community Service commented "Last spring, we held a collection of used soccer balls for a children’s hospital in Ghana. Your response was overwhelming!" FC Copa's goal in that drive was to collect and ship 50 balls to the children in Africa, but they still keep coming! To date we have collected over 200 soccer balls, which we will continue to share and ship to those that are less fortunate than us.
This week and next (until Dec. 9th), FC Copa will be collecting socks at our Annual College Recruitment Night, any upcoming training sessions and/or games (please place these in the boxes which will be available or hand them to your coach or manager). These pairs of new socks will be donated to area non-profit organizations for distribution just in time for the season’s cooler weather. Any new socks will be accepted: any color, any size, any material as long as they are NEW.
No donation will be turned away – even if you can donate just one pair, it will be greatly appreciated. Given our past success, we are setting a goal of 250 pairs of socks. Look for the boxes at the the field, and please be as generous as possible!
Come on, Copa! We have warmed the hearts of many families outside of our club this year. Now, it is time to warm their SOLES.
Thank you in advance for your support!

FC Copa Aventura: 2011 MSSL Winter College Showcase Champions! posted 11/24/2011 by FC Copa
The FC Copa Aventura U16G needed 2 late goals in their final game to be crowned champions of the 2011 MSSL Winter College Showcase, which was held November 19 and 20.
In the first game of on Saturday, the Aventura battled the Smithtown Kickers SC Revolution (NYE) to a 0-0 tie. That match saw few opportunities for the Aventura, with keeper Aisha Chuahan making several great saves to keep the Aventura alive. The second game proved a turning point, as the Aventura went behind early – fewer than 20 seconds into the game – to the Lehigh Valley United Blue Sparks (PAE). The Aventura tightened things up after that, and leveled the game as Mel Diakun’s free kick beat the keeper, but cracked off the crossbar, only to have Carly McNulty poke in the rebound. The Aventura pressed on and found the winner in the second half when Alexa Aldredge found the back of the net from a free kick. Final score: 2-1.
The Aventura controlled the first game on Sunday against FC Trois-Rivieres (CAN), scoring 6 goals before giving up 1 goal late in the game. It was a balanced attack, with 5 different Aventura girls scoring in the 6-1 win. That win, and especially the 5-goal difference, put the Aventura into the final game needing either a win or a tie; only a loss would prevent them from winning it all.
As in the second game of the tournament, the Aventura went down a goal very early against the Mount Olive SC Premier. Unlike the first game, however, Mount Olive scored a second goal right away. Being down 2 goals inside of 10 minutes may have rattled lesser teams, but the Aventura regained their poise, pressed on, and slowly began to dominate play. Deep into the second half, still down by 2 goals, the breakthrough came: a low, hard corner kick pinged around the box, and Melaney Zranchev slotted it into the net. The Aventura continued to press, and with fewer than 3 minutes left in the game it was Melaney Zranchev again, who picked up a through ball and shot low and hard passed the keeper. With that very satisfying 2-2 tie, the Aventura were champions.
Congratulations Aventura!
