#1 Ranked FC Copa Real U17G reaches final of the US Club NJ Cup!
posted 5/15/2012 by
FC Copa U17G Real (GotSoccer #1 in NJ, #5 in Nation) reaches the final of the 2012 US Club NJ State Cup and suffers tough 2-1 loss.

For the second year in a row, the U17G Real took the trip down to the Championship weekend of the US Club NJ Cup.  Last year they suffered a 1-0 loss in the semifinals, but this year they would not be denied competing in the championship game.  The Real came out strong in the first game of the day with a commanding 4-0 win vs long time friendly rival Cherry Hill FC Freedom.  Playing their possession based style of play, the Real controlled the pace of the game while Cherry Hill battled back courageously throughout the match.

The win meant that the FC Copa Real would meet the NJ Wildcats later on in the day.  In the Championship match the FC Copa Real struck first with a great combination which allowed its striker to slip the ball past the rapidly closing goalkeeper.  The half would end with the Real leading the match 1-0.  Knowing that the score would likely not end that way against a very competitive side, the Real stepped on the field in the second half with a tactic to contain defensively and posses on the attack.  The tying goal was scored on a set play which turned the momentum to the opponents favor in the match only to see them score a heart breaker with minutes left in the match giving them the 2-1 win.

Although a heart breaker of a finish for all team members, reaching the final meant that the FC Copa Real U17G are back to being ranked the #1 team in NJ and jumped to #5 in the country!

Roberto Aguas, Coach of the FC Copa Real U17G stated "This was a tough loss to a very athletic team.  Although we lost this final, the girls have performed amazingly this entire season against national level competition at premier showcases around the country. The level of play and development has paid dividends as many of the long time members of the team have received and accepted top collegiate offers.  We look forward to great upcoming summer months where they will play in additional top showcases and in the US Club U20 league where they will aim to finish a step higher as champions."

For program details please visit this our SOL Summer Premier page via this link.

FC Copa is pleased to announce the 2012 FC Copa Summer SOL, our premier summer program, focused on development via a positive competitive environment and the spirit of teamwork. Now entering its seventh year, SOL looks to build on the successes of our teams' competitiveness and camaraderie of the past six summers. The SOL Summer Premier consists of weekly training, three tournaments, competitive games as well as inter club matches throughout the months of June and July.

FC Copa believes both in the importance of teams maintaining continuity throughout the year without large gaps in time without playing together, but also in the value of periods of rest and variation in program. SOL was implemented to provide not only the continuity of FC Copa Academy teams continuing to play together over the summer, but to significantly vary the program from the Fall and Spring seasons. The focus is on having fun, trying and learning new things from guest trainers, and learning how to be winning competitors in the highly-competitive summer tournaments stacked with select, ODP, and elite club teams. Current FC Copa players are automatically offered a spot on their team's SOL summer team. Players not currently playing for FC Copa will be evaluated at current team training sessions and/or at designated tryout dates. We usually are able to field summer teams from our existing Academy seasonal teams, and make every effort to field teams in all age groups, though this is dependent on having sufficient player interest. If you are interested in this program, please complete an Evaluation Information Form and you will be contacted regarding evaluation dates and locations.

Tyler Terens, FC Copa Boca U18B, Commits to Hobart College!
posted 4/22/2012 by FC Copa
FC Copa Boca’s Tyler Terens has committed to Hobart College in Geneva, NY starting in the Fall 2012.

Tyler will be joining the Statesmen squad led by head coach Shawn Griffin.  Coach Griffin will be entering his 13th year as head coach and just the 5th head coach in school history.  Hobart College is a division III school playing in the Liberty League Conference.  The Statesmen are coming off a successful 16-4-0 (6-2-0 in conference) season. Tyler plans on majoring in Psychology at Hobart.

Tyler, a forward, has been a member of FC Copa since U15 when he joined Boca. Tyler is a senior at Morristown-Beard High School in Morristown, NJ.  Tyler was a 4 year starter at Morristown-Beard helping guide his team to the Sectional semi-finals in 2011 and 2009 and Prep semi-finals in 2011.  He was named MVP of his team in his sophomore, junior and senior years as well as being named capitan as a junior and a senior.  Type was named to the 1st team all conference, 1st team all-prep, and 3rd team all-county. He finished his high school career amassing 56 goals.

Tyler’s recruiting process took off after playing in the Potomac Tournament in 2010.  “The coaching staff really helped on getting my name out for the coaches to see and for them to come see me play on a big stage.”, Tyler said.  During the recruiting process he torn his meniscus at the height of the process.  Coach Roberto, Director of player Development at FC Copa, actively worked with Tyler to develop a methodical plan including intense rehab and slowly getting him back on the field.  Once he completed his injury rehabilitation the FC Copa coaching staff worked with him to select the appropriate collegiate camps for recruiting exposure as well as working with him to get his skills back to where they needed to be before attending the camps.  Tyler credits this plan and the continued collegiate placement process at FC Copa as the keys on why he was recruited in a short amount of time after his surgery. “Coach Roberto knows how to get kids recruited and make sure they are ready to play at the college level”, he said.

Tyler’s decision came down to two schools that were very interested in him, Brandeis and Hobart.  Tyler credits both Coach Roberto and Coach Reid in guiding him and helping him “seal the deal” with Hobart.  He chose Hobart because the school’s great academic reputation, the style Coach Griffin plays, and it’s national reputation.  “Coach Griffin was by far the most active and relentless coach I dealt with in this process”, Tyler commented. Coach Mike Reid states, "Tyler played in multiple teams at FC Copa, playing up a year with our U18s last year, and playing with our U18s this year. His relentless work rate and highly competitive attitude which he honed in at FC Copa will serve him well at the collegiate level."

Everyone at FC Copa wish Tyler and his FC Copa Boca teammates good luck this season and wish Tyler the best at Hobart College.

FC Copa Real U17G were crowned champions while the FC Copa Juniors U15B and FC Copa Boca U18B were finals in their respective Super Group brackets at the MSSL 2012 Spring Showcase.

Continuing their impressive streak this spring, the FC Copa Real U17G once again went undefeated with three wins and one tie while scoring 7 goals and only allowing 1.  This showcase comes at the heals of the Reals recent trip out west to the Las Vegas Players Showcase where they returned as Finalist with the exact same undefeated record of three wins and one tie.  In this showcase the Real competed vs top competition from NJ and NY defeated FC Broncos 94/95 (NJ) 2-0, tied Jersey United Spartans 94/95G Blue (NJ) 0-0, defeated Massapequa SC Elite (NYE) 3-0 and in the finals defeated Everton NJ 94/95 Girls Blue (NJ) 2-1.  Roberto Aguas, coach of the FC Copa Real commented, "We are very happy with the progress of the Real U17G so far this spring.  In this critical U17 recruiting year the team has achieved great results while playing their possession based style. We look forward to having this success continue as we secure additional collegiate commitments for our players."

On the boys brackets, the FC Copa Juniors U15B also went undefeated with 2 wins and 2 ties but fell short of being crowned champions via points as they tied 0-0 vs the eventual champions in the final game of the weekend.  In the U19 Super Group, the FC Copa Boca U18B won the 3 pool play games in decisive fashion scoring 12 goals and only allowing 1, but fell just short in the finals 0-1 in a very competitive match.

We would like to congratulate all three FC Copa teams on their exceptional performance in the MSSL 2012 Spring Showcase Super Groups.
Sam Polito, FC Copa Boca U18's Goalkeeper, Commits to Bates!
posted 4/9/2012 by FC Copa
FC Copa Boca’s Sam Polito has committed to Bates College, a highly selective, private liberal arts college located in Lewiston, Maine for the Fall 2012 season.

Sam will be joining the Bobcats as they welcome in Stewart Flaherty as their new head coach next season. Bates College is a member of The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) a NCAA Division III athletic conference, consisting of eleven colleges and universities located in New England and New York.

Sam, a goalkeeper, join FC Copa Boca, the current #1 ranked NJ U18B team, in the summer of his sophomore year.  Sam is a senior as Bernards High School in Bernardsville, NJ.  Sam was a four year starter and was named Group 2 Honorable mention, First team all area, twice named 2nd team all county, twice named first team all conference, and 2nd team all conference.  He was also named Courier News rookie of the year and a player to watch in 2011.  His team went on to win their conference each year and won the section and state championships in 2011.

When the recruiting process began for Sam, upwards of 15 schools were interested in him before choosing Bates early in his senior year.  Sam recalls, “Copa really helped in getting me the exposure I needed to play at the collegiate level.”.  His first contact after the Dalls Cup in 2010 came from Carnegie Mellon and then the process just took off with some difficult decision to make about where he wanted to attend school.  He credits FC Copa ultimately in the end because the club was the starting point for him to prepare and get exposure at the collegiate level. Coach Mike Reid sates, "Sam is a highly competitive athlete and goalie.  He has shown tremendous desire to succeed at this high level and ultimately deserves a successful collegiate soccer career. I wish him the best with his future team and teammates at Bates." Sam will be majoring in economics at Bates.

FC Copa wishes Sam and his FC Copa Boca teammates the best of luck in the upcoming season and wish Sam the best as he embarks on his college career.
