Quote about a specific coach:
Coach Paulo is the one who allowed me to transform into a striker from a goalkeeper. I owe so much to him, he is seen to be as a father figure in my life, and I could not have been the player I am today without him. Coach Craig is one of my favorite coaches that I have ever been coached by. Coach Craig has so much confidence as me in a player, and that does nothing but motivate me. Coach Craig has seen me since I first ever tried out for FC COPA. He supported me when I decided to change positions, and he played a crucial role in my development. He has given me so much advice about college and helped me with this great decision of college commitment. Much thanks to these two coaches, as they always believed in me and motivated me to play to the best of my capabilities. These two are easily the reasons why I am the player I am today.
What are your most memorable moments or experiences at FC Copa Academy?
My most memorable moment at FC COPA would easily have to be when Coach Paulo decided to put me as a striker in a scrimmage against Cedar Stars, one of the highest ranked teams in NY. That was my first time playing as a striker as an FC COPA player, and I scored two goals and had an assist, that moment changed my life as a player entirely.
How did FC Copa Academy help you become the player you are today?
FC COPA allowed me to work on my technique and increase my understanding of the game. FC COPA allowed me to have self confidence as a player and improved my skill all over. FC COPA made me view soccer in a perspective that I could never have imagined to see it in. FC COPA has forged me into the player I am today and that is all thanks due to the teachings of FC COPA and the coaching staff overall.
How did FC Copa Academy help you get into the college program you will be attending?
The FC COPA Academy is the reason I was beginning to get college interests in the first place. High School soccer does have some college exposure but nothing compared to club level of FC COPA. Unfortunately, last season I had an annoyance of an injury. However, from this season so far, from two tournaments alone, I was able to receive 20 plus college coaches' interests, that were all interested in me and my playstyle. FC COPA has connections all over since I decided to stay in-state, my main two options were Rutgers Newark and Camden. Both schools have experienced a multitude amount of FC COPA players in their programs. FC COPA players that have attended that school are known to be the reasons for success at these programs. So going into these colleges, I knew that my club background would aid me significantly. After consulting with my parents, I was able to decide on one college, that being, Rutgers Newark. FC COPA helped me with the recruitment process; it was one of the smoothest processes. Having such a smooth process with one of the most significant decisions of my life is a blessing. All thanks to the FC COPA Academy.
Share your thoughts and experiences on the collegiate recruitment process with FC Copa Academy.
FC COPA allowed my process to be very smooth, due to the club having profound roots with my first options for commitment. Both Rutgers Newark and Camden has had a significant amount of FC COPA players through their programs in the past. A lot of the success these programs have had is credited to those previous FC COPA players. Since FC COPA had deep roots with both programs, the recruitment was simple and easy. I decided to attend Rutgers Newark; the process was one of the simplest I have ever done. Having such a simple procedure in one of the hardest decisions of my life is a blessing. All thanks to the FC COPA Academy.
What advice would you give to future FC Copa Academy athletes going through the collegiate recruitment process?
Advice that I would give future FC Copa Academy athletes going through the collegiate recruitment process would easily be to play their heart on in every single game. Give it 110% in every game, because when you do, you'll have recognition from these coaches with ease. Make sure to train in the offseason as that is the most crucial time, work on your weaknesses to improve yourself as a player. Make sure to hit the weight room because physicality is one of the critical elements coaches look for; this does not mean to forget your fundamentals of soccer. The most important piece of advice that I can give is that make sure to have fun when you're playing because that's when you perform the best. It does not matter if you go D1, D2, or D3. It's just making sure you get to continue your passion and love for the beautiful game for another four competitive years.
