Englishby joins FC Copa with over fourteen years of coaching experience at the youth level and has worked with programs of all ages and levels providing great insight into the life cycle of the player.
Coach Englishby brings a wealth of both playing and coaching experience to FC Copa Academy. For the past three years Coach Englishby was the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Division I Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. While at Drexel he assisted in leading the team to many successful accolades including:
National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award (2014 & 2015)
25 Student-Athletes represented on Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner’s Academic Team (3.2 gpa or higher)
2 Student-Athletes represented on All CAA Teams (2014)
Philadelphia Soccer Six Runner-up (2014)
Philadelphia Soccer Six Academic Athlete of the Year (2014)
2 Student-Athletes represented on All Philadelphia Soccer Six Team (2014)
Prior to joining Drexel’s staff, Coach Englishby was the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Division I Campbell University in North Carolina for seven years, his alma mater. As their Assistant Coach, Englishby secured their first ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2007, captured regular season titles in 2008 and 2009, and led the team to their first ever end-of-season National Ranking at #22. With a record of 67-55-13, Coach Englishby was also instrumental in developing many former players onto the next level, with three drafted by the MLS. Additional accolades while at Campbell University included:
Campbell University’s first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship (2007).
Atlantic Sun’s first conference member to go undefeated (9-0) in conference play.
Team has been ranked in the final South Regional ranking three times and has finished in the top 10 in 2007, 2012 and as high as #3 in 2008.
22 All-Conference, 2 Player of the year, 2 Freshman of the year, 7 All-South, 2 All-Americans, 3 players in the MLS Draft.
National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Awards with a Team GPA of 3.0 + (2007, 2008, 2013).
As a player, Coach Englishby was the starting goalkeeper and team captain for Campbell, playing in 44 games in his three years of eligibility after transferring in. He is among the school’s all-time leading saves with 201 stops.
At the club level, Coach Englishby has significant years of experience, most recently with Triangle United in North Carolina where he led his ‘95 Boys team to a USYSA Region III Championship in 2013. In addition to his time with Triangle United SA, Coach Englishby was also the North Carolina Olympic Development Program Head Coach, making him the only collegiate Assistant Coach to be named as Head Coach in the Program. He led his ‘96 Boys to an ODP Region III Championship appearance. Four ODP players went on to the U17 National Team Residency Program while another four went on to the professional ranks.
Coach Englishby holds his USSF B License and NSCAA Premier Diploma, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and Sports Management from Campbell University.
