Matty Berman, CPT

Director of Strength and Conditioning

Matty Berman joined FC Copa Academy as a staff coach in 2015. Currently, Matty coaches the 2006 and 2004 girls National League teams. The 2006 group finished as runners-up in National League, semifinalists in USYS State Cup, semifinalists in Conference Cup, and earned a birth in the USYS Regional Tournament in West Virginia. The 2004’s were crowned Champions of US Club State Cup, finalists at Jefferson Cup, placed at the Disney Showcase, and won multiple EDP tournaments throughout the year.

As a player, Matty completed a successful NCAA Division 1 career at Marist College after transferring from Rutgers University. As a Scarlet Knight, he earned 5 starts and Big East All-Academic Team Honors. As a Red Fox, Matty served as team captain his junior and senior seasons, compiled 51 starts, and tallied eight career assists. In October of 2013, his efforts led him to be named MAAC Student-Athlete of the week. In addition to this honor, Matty was named Marist Student-Athlete of the Month in September of 2013. Matty earned MAAC All-Academic team accolades in 2013 and 2014. Following his senior campaign, Matty received the 2014 Marist Men’s Soccer Coaches Award after starting all 18 matches for the Red Foxes.

​In high school, Matty was an all-state, all county, and all-conference player his junior and senior seasons at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, NJ. As a member of FC Copa Forza, from 2007-2011, they won 2 state championships (2011) and finished as national finalists in 2008.

Matty then continued his playing career with the club on the U20,U23, and NPSL teams from 2011-2016. His efforts helped lead NJ Copa FC to the regional finals in the NPSL team’s inaugural season in 2016.

Matty was recently named onto EDP’s Promising Young Coaches Under 30 List for the 2020 year.

On coaching at FC Copa, Matty said, "It’s been a special opportunity to come back and coach at the club that helped me so much throughout my youth career. Working alongside my mentor, Coach Roberto, and the entire staff as well as having great groups of players and families continues to make this experience special."
