Matt Anderson

GIRLS DIRECTOR | FC Copa Academy

FC Copa Academy is proud to announce the addition of Matt Anderson as the new Girls Technical Director. Anderson brings extensive experience across collegiate, club, and academy soccer, along with a strong background in player development, goalkeeper training, and program leadership. His appointment strengthens FC Copa’s continued commitment to excellence in developing female players on and off the field.

Originally from England, Coach Anderson has built a reputation for elevating environments at every level of the game. His coaching journey includes:

  • Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach + Recruiting Coordinator, University of Rhode Island (2024 – 2025), Achieved the highest RPI ranking and most wins in 10 years, with the most goals scored in 8 years and the biggest win in 19 years.

  • Foundation Age Group Director/Assistant Coaching Director, Brooklyn City FC (2017-2021 + 2022-2024), where he played a critical role in expanding the club from 25 to over 200 players, designing curriculum, and overseeing staff development. 

  • Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach, St. John’s University (2022–2024), contributing to player development and overall team performance within one of the BIG EAST’s top programs. Coached Jessica Garziano who was drafted to NWSL in 2023. 

  • Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach, University at Albany (2021–2022), where he helped lead two players to America East First-Team honors and coached freshman goalkeeper Cassandra Coster to a top-15 national ranking in save percentage. 

  • Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach, St. Francis Brooklyn (2019–2021), where he supported the team’s first-ever home and road wins and mentored NEC All-Rookie honoree Avery Gonzalez.
     

Matt Anderson holds his UEFA B License, the second-highest coaching license in Europe—as well as a USSF C License, a reflection of his commitment to ongoing coaching education at both domestic and international levels.

He earned his Bachelor of Science from Teesside University (UK) in 2017 and is currently completing a Master’s degree at Middlesex University.

As Girls Director at FC Copa Academy, Matt will lead the technical planning, coach development, and player pathway structure for all girls programs across FC Copa’s NJ, NY & PA locations, from grassroots through the club’s USL W senior team.

“Matt brings an outstanding balance of on-field expertise, player-centered development, and administrative leadership,” said Roberto Aguas, President & Executive Director of Coaching. “His diverse experiences at top universities and ambitious clubs make him a natural fit to help guide the future of our girls program.”
