ARAUJO’S HAT TRICK LEADS THE NJ COPA FC MEN TO VICTORY

METUCHEN, NJ - On Saturday May 19th, the NJ COPA FC Men took on long time rivals Electric City Shock in Scranton PA. The Men were able to come away with three points to start off their season as their hard fought efforts gave them a 5-0 victory. One player in particular was an integral part to the team’s success, Raphael Araujo.

The captain took over in the game and was able to score a pair of goals along with one from Kevin Veliz to secure a 3-0 lead early in the first half. A goal from Anthony Ferrer and Araujo’s third were the two final goals to finish off the game. Araujo was a formidable presence on the field throughout the game. He commenced the scoring in the 26th minute followed by Veliz only two minutes after finding the back of the net in the 28th minute. Araujo then got back on the goal scoring sheet in fine fashion scoring in the 38th minute. The score remained at 3-0 at the half. At the start of the second half Electric City came out with dangerous attacking play but the NJ COPA FC defense kept them at bay. The Men got back to their goal scoring ways when Anthony Ferrer got his first goal of the season in the 56th minute. No one was better suited to score the fifth and final goal other than Araujo who became the hat trick hero in the 69th minute.

When asked about the team’s performance Head Coach Roberto Aguas stated, “I’m very pleased with how the team performed today. Electric City is a quality side and it is always a challenge when we play them. We executed our game plan well by moving the ball to create space for our attackers and we also showed real chemistry within our attacking build up play. This allowed us to be dangerous in front of goal which is something the coaches and I stressed in training because Electric City and every other team in the league have very good defensive players that could shut our attack down if we let them. Overall, I’m happy with the result and we’ll start preparing for our next match against Atlantic City.”

Captain Raphael Araujo when asked about the team’s win stated, “It was a great win for the team, it is always important to start off league play with a convincing win. We have a very talented and experienced squad and we were able to move the ball well and create some dangerous opportunities against an opponent who is very well organized. I’m happy with our performance and I am very excited for the season ahead.”

The Men will look to capitalize off this win as they prepare for their next test on Wednesday, May 30th when they take on Atlantic City FC.
