G06/07 ECNL RL AUDRA TOTH NAMED ALL STATE WESTFIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

WRITTEN BY: TAPinto Westfield

WESTFIELD, NJ — This captain on the Westfield High School Girls Soccer Team confidently leads her team, inspiring them to play with matching heart and energy.

Senior Audra Toth is this week’s Andy Heinz and The Westfield Legacy Agency’s Allstate Westfield Athlete of the Week.

Toth got her start in the sport at a young age.

“I started playing soccer when I was 4,” she said. “I moved to my club team, FC Copa Academy in Hillsborough, when I was 10 and immediately found a home there. I stayed at FC Copa for my whole soccer career and will continue playing there throughout my senior year.”

Playing assuredly and hoping that stance is reflected in her teammates helps Toth make a strong contribution to the Blue Devils’ performance.

“My approach to playing is out-working my opponents,” she said. “I play aggressively on the field with confidence and passion, hoping that my teammates can feed off of my energy.”

Alexander Schmidt, head coach of the Westfield High School girls soccer team, shared in that assessment, noting that Toth recently had a hat trick (3 goals) and an assist in the team’s opening game versus Cranford. The Blue Devils won the game 4-0 in Westfield on Sept. 4.

“My personal goal this season is to lead the front line of our attack effectively with creativity,” Toth said. “I have been a defender my whole life, so playing forward is very new to me.”

“However, it has been very fun, so I want to keep performing well for my team,” Toth said. “As a captain, I want to lead the team in any way they need me, and I have high hopes for how far we go into the state tournament. Our team has a lot of talent, which has the potential to take us far.”

What she enjoys most about the sport is the input and output she gets from it, Toth  added.

“I love to train,” she said. “I love working on my fitness, speed, strength, technical work and everything else that comes with the sport. There is nothing I love more than the rewarding feeling when I see that training paying off on the field. I can feel my touch get sharper, I can feel myself running faster and longer without getting tired, I can feel my strength within tackles. I get such a high whenever I play. I also love the camaraderie of being on a team.”

In her rare moments of free time, “I mostly hang out with my friends and my dog,” she said. “If I have a few days of free time, my family goes up to our lake house in Vermont, which is my favorite place.”

Soccer remains in her future. Toth will take her passion for the sport next year to Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., where she will be playing Division I soccer.
