FC COPA ACADEMY GIRLS TEAMS HAVE ANOTHER STRONG NPL WEEKEND

METUCHEN, NJ - Four out of five FC Copa Academy girls teams finished with victories in NPL weekend games. The games were held at Pio Costa in Fairfield, NJ. It was a great NPL day as we took on TSF Academy, a quality club.

U14 G04 Black (3-2: Win) An excellent victory for the G04 Black coming from behind to beat a very technical and fast TSF side. After going down 2-0 early on in the game it was a struggle to find rhythm due to difficult conditions. After making some tactical changes we put the opponent under more pressure. The team worked hard and battled back by scoring the game winner with only 2 minutes left in the game.

U15 G03 Black (3-2: Win) The G03s struggled to create space and move the ball effectively in the first 20 minutes of the game resulting in a let down which gave our opponent a 1-0 lead early in the game. After regaining some of the momentum the girls went on to converted 2 goals on well executed set plays to take the lead. Next weekend we are playing the top two teams, which will determine the champion.

U16 G02 Black (2-1: Loss) With an uncharacteristic number of mistakes the G02 ended the day with a loss against TSF. Although the team showed good moments, we were not able to find enough of the game to set the tone or create the impact necessary for it to go our way.

U17 G01 Black (4-1: Win) We are very proud of the G01 Black coming out with a strong victory on a rainy Sunday night. The weather and field conditions made it difficult for our girls to execute our game plan of moving the ball to find 1v1 situations in the attacking third. We are very happy with the outcome of the game after playing 3 intense matches in 3 straight days.

U18/U19 G99/00 Black (6-0: Win) With significant focus put on creating spaces and passing lanes the G99/00 found great success in the match ending the first half with a 2-0 lead. In the second half the success continued as we saw six goals coming from four different player, which helped balance our attack. This shutout win secured the EDP NPL North Division lead which now sets up a clash with the leader of the EDP NPL South, who is currently the #2 team in Maryland.

  • U14 G04 Black: 5th place in the NPL.
