This past weekend, three FC Copa Academy girls teams traveled to Orlando, Florida for the US Youth Soccer inaugural National League P.R.O event. The USYS National League platform offers a unique opportunity for teams that have qualified to compete against top clubs from around the country.
FC Copa Academy had three teams qualify for this year's USYS National League P.R.O. The 2007 Girls led by Girls Director Massimo Cedraschi, the 2006 Girls led by Executive Director of Coaching Roberto Aguas and VP Lori Berman and the 2003/04 Girls led by Matty Berman.
The Girls 2006 team got the event started with the early game all three days and had a remarkable weekend, finishing undefeated in all three games without conceding a single goal. Their first match finished with a 3-0 win against USA Premier 06G PR, who are one of the top teams in the state of Utah.
Saturday’s match replicated the girls on field success with another 3-0 win against Solar South 06G FDL Adames. The Texas clubs is the defending USYS National Champions and #2 ranked team in the country according to GotSoccer.
Sunday proved no different, as the team continued their momentum from the previous two games. Our girls went up against MLS side FC Dallas Youth G06, the reigning Texas North State Finalist, in a highly anticipated game. A 3-0 win against FC Dallas Youth sealed a perfect weekend for our girls as they scored 9 goals by 6 different players and conceded 0 goals in 3 games.
Coach Roberto Aguas summarized the performance, “The National League P.R.O event proved to be a stellar weekend for the FC Copa Academy G06 team, going undefeated and unscored upon. The opponents in each match were excellent, representing top talent throughout the country including the reigning national champions. Our girls executed the defined tactics well and worked tremendously hard throughout the time here; be it in games, team meetings and bonding events. We are very proud of the team’s results so far and look forward to the next event in Arizona.”
The 2007 Girls replicated much of the same success throughout the weekend. Their first match was against Florida’s JFC 2007G in an end to end game that resulted in a 2-1 win to start the weekend.
Saturday proved a tricky test for the girls as they went up against South Florida FA/Boynton Knights 07 (FL). The Florida club is currently sitting as #3 ranked team in Florida. A 1-0 loss was how it ended, but a lot of positives to take away from the game in preparation for the next tough match.
US Youth Arizona State Champions and the #2 ranked team in the state, AZSC 07G Gwinnett were next up for our girls. A 5-2 statement win ensured that the girls finished top of the table until the next NL P.R.O event in Arizona.
“It was a good weekend for our 2007G team. It was the first time for this group to be in that kind of environment but the girls responded as I expected them to do and played three solid games. Only one of the games didn’t go in our favor but we are bringing back plenty of areas to learn from and looking forward to playing for the final big win in Arizona” stated coach Massimo.
FC Copa Academy G03/04 were exposed to some high level competition. The girls gave #3 ranked Mississippi team, SMSC Elite, a great battle until the end. The third day saw the girls fall just short to #1 ranked Oregan team, United PDX 03G Premier Black. A 3-0 win against #30 nationally ranked TFA G03 Elite, gave the girls a rewarding feeling to finish the weekend.
“G03 Black persevered through a challenging weekend to earn a 3-0 victory in the final game of the Orlando leg of the NL P.R.O event. Although failing to earn a result in the previous days, the girls completely dominated a tough Florida opponent to set us up with positive momentum heading into Arizona in March”, stated coach Matty.
The USYS National League P.R.O platform offers our academy teams the opportunity to play nationally ranked competition year round in some of the best facilities in the nation. FC Copa Academy, our players, coaches and parents are looking forward to the second round of matches at the next event which will be in March in Arizona.
