We’d like to congratulate Shawn Guzman, our B06/07 NPL goalkeeper from FC Copa
Academy, for his impressive efforts this high school season. Playing for Scotch Plains-Fanwood, Shawn’s consistent play has earned him recognition on the Union County Conference Players Of The Week list.
During the week, Shawn made two saves in a 1-1 double-overtime tie against Howell and followed it up with four saves in a 4-2 shootout win over Rahway in the Union County Tournament quarterfinals. He also notched his 11th shutout of the season in a 2-0 win against Oratory.
We’re proud of Shawn’s growth and accomplishments this season and look forward to seeing him continue to develop as he rejoins his B06/07 NPL squad for the upcoming 2024/25 season. Well done, Shawn!

What I like here is it’s not just one standout game—he stacked performances across a whole week, and that’s usually the sign the training is really translating. Hoping he carries that form into the 2024/25 NPL season because that age group gets so competitive. This might be a goofy comparison, but I was messing around with a simple caesar cipher explainer and it’s the same idea: fundamentals look basic until you see who can execute them cleanly every time.
High school tourney games can get chaotic fast, so seeing a keeper put up steady numbers across different kinds of matches (tie, shootout, clean sheet) says a lot. I’m curious what he’s focusing on next—distribution? quicker decisions playing out? Also, totally random, but the way people turn photos into that soft watercolor look on a quick ghibli ai filter kind of matches how these posts “capture the vibe” of a season in a few moments.
Players of the Week nods are cool, but 11 shutouts is the stat that coaches and opponents actually remember. Also love that this highlights the unglamorous part of goalkeeping—positioning + decision-making so you don’t even need the “sportscenter save” every time. Weirdly, I saw a decent hairstyle ai try-on thing recently and it reminded me how small tweaks (haircut, gloves, stance) can change how confident a player looks/feels.
The 2–0 vs Oratory shutout is the sneaky impressive one—those are the games where you might only get a couple real actions, but they’re usually the dangerous ones. Hope he keeps that momentum rolling back into NPL. Total offhand comparison: staying mentally “on” reminds me of trying to chase a high score in late-night blockblast rounds—one lapse and it’s over.
