FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT FOR THE NEW JERSEY COPA FC WOMEN
METUCHEN, NJ - The Women of NJ COPA FC seek to have an even better season than they did last year. To do this they’ll look to their veteran players, new important signings, and up and coming young players to achieve the goals they’ve set out for.
Leading the Women on this much anticipated season is veteran captain Jackie Bruno. Jackie has been with the club since it was formed back in 2016 and has been an integral part in the success that the team has had. An absolute force in the midfield and up top, Jackie can generate goal scoring opportunities for her teammates and can also be a deadly finisher when she gets the chance. She is definitely a key player for the Women’s side and we’re looking forward to seeing her help lead the team to glory this season. Jackie commented on her return to the 2018 season saying "Playing in the uws these past two seasons has been a great experience and I’m excited to return to play with Copa. They create a professional and family oriented environment and I'm looking forward to another successful season."
Another veteran returning to help further the success of the NJ COPA FC Women is striker Jeanine Nunez. At Adelphi University where Jeanine plays, she played in all 19 games and started 18 up top. She lead the team in goals with 12 on the season. Jeanine’s goal scoring prowess is something that will definitely help the NJ COPA FC Women thrive in the league and in the playoffs beyond. This is shaping up to be Jeanine’s best season with NJCFC yet.
Even though there are a couple of returning players for the Women's side, there are a few new faces that fans will become very familiar with. One of these new faces is Mallensy Vargas from NJCU. A sophomore at NJCU, Mallensy is a dominant midfielder that brings lots of energy and grace to the game. Even though she plays in the midfield Mallensy still has a nose for goal. In a game against Brooklyn College she scored a hattrick showing she can do it all. Mallensy will be a great addition to the Women’s side.
Last and definitely not least is a very talented group of young players who have already
achieved so much at the college level and are now looking to achieve new goals and reach new heights with NJCFC. The Women’s side is delighted to add former Celeste and FC COPA Academy alumni Sydney Cummings (Brown University), Christina Rodgers (Providence College), Alexis Williams (George Washington), Andrea Leitner (Albany), Katarina Nilsson (North Eastern), Katrina Demary (NJIT), and Jenny Callaghan (NJIT) to the roster for the upcoming UWS season. This group of girls was the core of the powerhouse Celeste team which was the ranked #1 in the state, #1 in the region, and #1 in the nation. We are very ecstatic that these girls have decided to come back to where it all began and help add their talents to an already outstanding UWS roster.
