NJ COPA FC FUTSAL COMES FROM BEHIND TO WIN IN FINE FASHION AGAINST COLUMBUS FUTSAL

METUCHEN, NJ - On Sunday May 20th, the NJ COPA FC Futsal team took on Columbus Futsal in a roller-coaster of a game that saw the NJ COPA FC attack in tremendous form winning the game five to four over the visitors.

The NJ COPA FC Futsal team knew they were taking on tough competition in Columbus but they were prepared mentally and physically for the challenge ahead. Both teams started the game with high intensity and were moving the ball at a fast one-two-touch rate to make for some mesmerizing play. Unfortunately, Columbus came out strong early on and put away two consecutive goals. NJ COPA FC struggled to find their rhythm until late in the first half when Louis Silva gave a great individual effort taking on two defenders and slotting it home past the keeper.

The second half was another story for the NJ COPA FC Futsal team. The attack mindedness that has given them so much success in the past was very present in the team’s play. In the 25th minute Bryan Carabali gave life to NJ COPA FC by putting in the equalizer to make it 2-2. Columbus however wouldn’t back down so easy as they put the pressure on NJ COPA FC and responded with a goal putting them ahead 3-2. NJ COPA FC kept on fighting and found a way to get another goal off the foot of Kevin Mendez making it 3-3. In the 31st minute Columbus found their fourth and final goal making it 4-3. The players persevered and equalized right away off wonderful team play which lead to Bryan Carabali once again finding the back of the net. The teams battled for the final eight minutes and with only 23.5 seconds left Francisco Corral became the hero netting the game winner. This was a fitting end for a hard fought match between two amazing teams.

After the thrilling win Head Coach Steve Lengen stated, “We knew Columbus would be tough competition, having just beaten Lansing who are very good. Columbus fought valiantly and their great style of play made for a very exciting game of futsal. Both sides had tons of chances that were kept at bay by absolutely amazing goalkeeping on both ends. There were some fantastic goals from both teams, it was fast, intense, and everything that makes this sport great. The defensive discipline was the key to the result in the end. We struggled in the first half, conceding two quickly, but once we tightened up, we allowed ourselves to start chipping away at their lead. The players implemented our halftime discussion topics very well, and used their attacking creativity to create some beautiful goals. We’ll be looking forward to what should be two more exciting matches in Lansing and Columbus this weekend."
