NJ COPA FC HOLD OFF LI ROUGH RIDERS TO STAY UNDEFEATED AT HOME

METUCHEN, NJ - The NJ COPA FC Women stayed strong as they held off a tough LI Rough Rider team. The Women had cylinders firing against the LI Rough Riders both on offense and defense. This was a very important win for the women and will help them build momentum as they head into their weekend match.

In the first half NJ COPA FC had good attacking play that lead to the first goal of the game in the 15th minute. The Women received a free kick in the attacking half and Jeanine Nunez stepped up to take the kick. Her attempt was headed by defenders but then headed back into the box by Camille Bowen where Alexis Williams rushed to the ball for the easy tap in to put NJ COPA FC 1-0. After the goal LI Rough Riders went on an all out attack that put keeper Courtney Brosnan to the test. The defense stepped up and was able to keep the LI Rough Rider attack at bay.

The second half was all NJ COPA FC. The stand out player in the second half was Tori Baliatico who scored two goals in the second half to secure the win for NJ COPA FC. Baliatico’s first goal came in the 75th minute. Baliatico took the ball and weaved through the LI Rough Rider back line and slotted it in the back o f the net to put NJ COPA FC up by two. It took only five more more minutes for her to score her second goal in the 80th minute. Jackie Bruno played an absolute ping over the LI defensive line to Baliatico who took it down and danced around the keeper to score the easy tap in to put NJ COPA FC up 3-0. The Women weren’t able to keep the clean sheet unfortunately. In the 90th minute Shaniel Morgan had an easy tap in to score the lone goal for the LI Rough Riders.

When asked about this impressive win Head Coach Andrew Giallombardo stated, “For the team it’s always a great feeling to bounce back with a win. In our previous match we felt unlucky not to take points from the game but credit to the ladies, they showed up at training ready to work and get back on track. We knew from the start if we could put a lot of pressure on them we would eventually be able to break them down. The ladies stuck to the game plan and made it very difficult for the Rough Riders to play. I think it was our best team game of the season and I’m hoping this kicks on and moves us in the right direction.”
