A cloudy day greeted fans at our latest New Jersey Copa F in Metuchen, Saint Joseph High School played host to another New Jersey Copa FC doubleheader as the UWS women hosted Brooklyn City FC, and the USL League Two Men’s side hosted Manhattan Soccer CLub.
New Jersey Copa FC kicked off the match on the front foot, taking the game right to Brooklyn City FC’s backline and create a number of dangerous chances early on. Melanie Cunha slipped in behind the backline in the 10th minute to put away the first goal of the match, an excellent start for Coach Massimo and the ladies. Kim Wyant’s side found the equalizer five minutes before halftime to head into the break-all square. After the break, Brooklyn City FC found their second goal of the match to head into the lead in the 67th minute. Coach Massimo threw on the attacking game-changers in order to chase for the equalizer. Christina Estremera, Otandeka Laki and Emily Jozak all made their way onto the field and provide the home side with an instant spark. In the 90th, a bouncing ball inside the box made its way onto Dana Costello, who tucked it away for the equalizer. Not settling there, New Jersey Copa FC searched for the match-winner and in stoppage time, Dana Costello rifled home her 2nd of the match to give the home side the hard-fought comeback victory. A massive effort all around! The UWS women return to action Saturday July 10th, as they prepare to host the Connecticut Rush. Get your tickets here.
New Jersey Copa FC faced off in USL League Two action as they faced off against Manhattan SC for the second time this season. Goalkeeper Jan Hoffelner produced two world-class saves in the first half to keep the score leveled at the break. New Jersey Copa FC top scorer, Okan Golge was introduced at the half as the home side went on in search of the first goal. Both teams battled it out late into the 2nd half, but in the 88th minute, Aristotle Seferlis slipped in a brilliant ball to Okan Golge who took a touch and then produced a great strike into the top right corner of the net. The strike clinched all three points for New Jersey Copa FC as they continue their push for the playoffs.
