THE JEFFERSON CUP RECAP – B07 BLACK JEFFERSON CUP CHAMPIONS

Last weekend, March 9th-11th, four different FC Copa Academy teams represented the academy in the Jefferson Cup, one of the most top-rated tournaments in the country. New to the cup were our teams, the B06 Black and the B07 Black, our youngest team at the academy to ever compete in the tournament, which finished as Champions. Returning to the cup were the B03 Black and the B03 Black South.

The U15 B03 Black South tied 1-1 SCS United Elite and later tied again 3-3 GPS Lexington SA 03 Gold before eventually undergoing a loss of 4-1 after heading up against Liverpool FC IA-MI 03 Fowler.

Next up was U15 B03 Black, who lost their first game 2-0 against Piedmont Triad FC 03 Black before tying against SAC Showcase Premier with a game of 0-0 on the same day. On Sunday, they had better luck winning against Atletico FC Boys 2003 with a score of 2-0, where they ended as Semi-Finalists.

Our younger teams performed very well as first-timers at The Jefferson Cup. The B06 Black won their first game against Arlington SA 2006B White with a score of 2-1 before tying 2-2 against Bethesda SC South Green 06. On Sunday, they endured a loss of 1-0 against WCWAA Black.

Lastly, the U11 B07 Black walked away as Champions of the tournament, leaving as the youngest Champions in Copa history to win the Jefferson Cup. They won their first game with a score of 3-2 against the Wilmington Hammerheads before playing against NCFC 07 Red North and winning the game 3-1. They finished the weekend off securing their last win with a score of 4-3 landing them in first place.

“We are extremely pleased with how our youngest team played,” said Coach Andrew Santos. “This team came together and played with confidence and bravery. They were able to not only enjoy this event on the field, but also off the field on their first away trip together."

FC Copa Academy congratulates all the competing teams from the Jefferson Cup this weekend, especially the U11 B07 Black on their finish as Jefferson Cup Champions.
