Born and raised in Hatay, Antakya, Coach Umut Yigit began his soccer journey in the coastal town of Samandağ, playing for Guneyspor, a local club known for its deep community roots and passion for the game. His early years as a player in this tight-knit, beachside community instilled in him a love for soccer and the discipline required to excel within a team environment.

From 2004 to 2014, Umut played at the third-tier professional level in Turkey while also coaching a regional youth team. These dual roles provided him with a strong foundation in both technical development and team leadership. His international coaching and playing experience shaped a holistic, culturally aware coaching philosophy focused on player growth, discipline, and fostering team unity.

Since relocating to the United States, Umut has held multiple coaching and leadership roles across New Jersey’s youth soccer landscape. He currently serves as Staff Coach and Operations Manager at FC Copa Academy and New Jersey Copa FC, while also coaching several competitive youth teams. He has successfully led recreational and travel programs most recently holding the position as Recreational Coordinator at GFSC-FC Copa recreational program where he developed training curriculums and coordinated staff assignments. Alongside his coaching responsibilities Umut manages operations for USL League teams for NJ COPA FC in both the 2024 & 2025 league seasons for USL2, USLW & USLA (boys and girls).

Umut holds a USSF National C License and is bilingual in Turkish and English, with conversational proficiency in Arabic. His ability to connect with players and families from diverse backgrounds strengthens his impact on and off the field.

At the heart of his approach is a strong belief in the long-term value of player development, both athletically and personally, through an environment rooted in trust, consistency, and positivity.
