New Jersey Copa FC Hires Kevin Nuss As Sporting Director
New Jersey-area coach and executive with impressive background to guide player rosters and technical structures throughout New Jersey Copa FC
METUCHEN, NJ - New Jersey Copa FC today announced the hiring of Kevin Nuss as Sporting Director. Nuss will guide and develop all competitive aspects of New Jersey Copa FC. Nuss will work closely on the technical side with New Jersey Copa FC President Roberto Aguas and USL League Two Head Coach Fernando Barboto and take a leadership role with the off-field management of the USL League Two team.
“We are thrilled that Kevin has agreed to join us as the first Sporting Director in our 17-year history,” said New Jersey Copa FC President and Founder Roberto Aguas. “Kevin joins us with a clear record of success in a number of different leadership roles in the game, and I am certain that he will have a tremendous impact on the vision and accomplishments of our organization going forward.”
Nuss, who is currently the Head Men’s Soccer coach at Camden County College will continue his role. A proven coach, administrator and recruiter, Nuss returns to USL League Two after serving as the Sporting Director and Head Coach of the Ocean City Nor’easters. Returning to the club for the 2019 season, Nuss previously held several positions within the organization, stepping into the front office as the General Manager from 2014 to 2016 after working the sidelines as Associate Head Coach and Assistant Coach from 2012 to 2014.
During his time in Ocean City, the Nor’easters were one of the most successful pre-professional clubs in the country, appearing in the USL League Two (formerly PDL) National Semifinals twice (2013 and 2016). Over the same period, the Nor’easters captured three playoff berths, won two Eastern Conference championships and qualified for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup twice. In 2013, the club was knocked out in the 3rd round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, losing 1-2 only by a stoppage time goal from the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.
“I am honored to be joining New Jersey Copa FC as they head into USL League Two,” said Nuss, whose appointment began immediately with USL tryouts this past weekend. “I had the chance to meet Roberto a couple years back, and I have always been impressed with him and FC Copa as an organization.”
Nuss has been instrumental in the advancement of many of his players' careers, assisting over 50 players move into the professional ranks. Some of the players who have advanced to the professional game under Nuss include; Tyler Miller (Minnesota United/Major League Soccer), John McCarthy (Inter Miami/Major League Soccer), Ken Tribbett (Nashville SC/Major League Soccer), Chevaughn Walsh (Thanh Hóa/Vietnam), and Brendan Hines-Ike (KV Kortrijk/Belgium).
Prior to joining the Nor’easters, Nuss served as an Assistant Coach at Division I schools St Joseph’s University and Brown University. Nuss began his coaching career in 2006 as an assistant at Camden County College, then joined Rutgers-Camden where the team compiled a 37-22-6 record in three years. Nuss has ties to the youth game as well, having served as General Manager at Cedar Stars Academy, Director of Player Development at Highland Youth Soccer Club and Cherry Hill FC. Nuss holds a US Soccer Federation “C” Coaching License
