METUCHEN, NJ - FC Copa Academy Coaches Matty Berman and Andrew Santos have been named to EDP’s Promising Young Coaches Under 30 List. Based on nominations from club directors and released earlier today, Berman, Santos and twenty eight other coaches under the age of 30 participating in EDP Soccer leagues have been recognized for their hard work, dedication and ability to develop players and teams.
“We are thrilled to congratulate Andrew, Matty and all the outstanding young coaches recognized by EDP,” said FC Copa President and Executive Director of Coaching Roberto Aguas. “FC Copa strives to retain and develop the best coaching talent to positively touch the lives of our players and collaborate with our staff. We are especially pleased to have seen these two exemplary young men transition from FC Copa players to leaders within our Club in their professional lives.”
Andrew Santos is an alum of FC Copa Academy since age 14. In addition to serving as a Staff Coach, he is FC Copa’s Director of Operations. Santos attended John F. Kennedy Memorial High School where he played four years at the varsity level and named captain of the team his junior and senior year. He graduated from Manhattan College after playing four years of Division I college soccer, earning the team's Most Valuable Player of the Year Award for the 2014 season. Santos holds a US Soccer D Coaching License.
"I am honored everyday to be a coach at FC Copa Academy,’ said Andrew Santos. “I grew up here, I graduated from here, and I have the greatest opportunity by giving back to the future of this sport. “FC Copa Academy has provided me a great foundation to coach and become the person I am today."
Matty Berman joined FC Copa Academy as a Staff coach in 2015 after also playing for FC Copa Academy. Berman also serves as FC Copa’s Director of Strength and Conditioning and guides the CopaFit Program. As a member of FC Copa Forza from 2007-2011, his team won 2 state championships (2011) and finished as national finalists in 2008. Berman completed a successful NCAA Division 1 career at Marist College, serving as team captain his junior and senior seasons. In high school, Berman was an all state, all county, and all conference player his junior and senior seasons at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, NJ.
“I am so grateful to be named to a group of such talented coaches across the region, and also be one of two FC Copa coaches recognized,'' said Matty Berman. “I thank Roberto Aguas and all of FC Copa for their guidance and support, and for my players who are so dedicated and showcase impressive quality on the field.”
