METUCHEN, NJ - FC Copa Academy today announced the launch of the Copa Skills Challenge for all its players. Over the next 9 weeks, the new weekly competition will be unveiled in two stages; Copa Weekly Skills Challenge and Copa GameDay Competitions.

For the Copa Weekly Skills Challenge, players will submit a video of a Time Trial Challenge within the app of FC Copa’s Training Partner Techne Futbol. The skill level of the Time Trial Challenge will be tailored to each team's age group. For the Copa GameDay Competitions, each FC Copa Academy team’s coach will select one player based on the Copa Weekly Skills Challenge to represent the team. On Saturdays, one player from each team will have an opportunity to keep their video or submit a new Techne Futbol Time Trial. On Selection Sunday, our panel of coaches - Dimitri, Andrew, Danny & Yazo will broadcast each Sunday at 12:00pm ET on FC Copa's Instagram LIVE (www.instagram.com/fccopa). The panel will view the videos submitted, critique based on the criteria and select a winning submission from each Group. After Selection Sunday, a vote for the best video will be posted on Instagram. In addition, every FC Copa Academy Team is placed in 9 different Groups. Promotion and relegation between the Groups will be enacted each week.

“In response to the Covid-19 outbreak, FC Copa worked quickly to establish the FC Copa Virtual Training Portal, providing an array of stay-at-home learning, engagement and training modules. FC Copa Academy Players have been doing a tremendous job staying engaged and keeping up with their training during this unprecedented time.” said FC Copa President and Executive Director of Coaching Roberto Aguas. “Recognizing the desire for our players to compete, FC Copa has developed the Copa Skills Challenge to meet that feedback in a setting for our players to train toward a goal and replicate their focus to be their best on match days each Saturday.”
