NJ Copa FC Internship Opportunities

League2-Vert-RGB-Dark.png

We appreciate your interest in an internship with New Jersey Copa FC.  New Jersey Copa FC fields teams in the UWS (Women) and USL League Two (Men).  Both leagues are the premier national platforms for players to advance to the professional game.  Both teams sit atop of a fully integrated pyramid with reserve teams, USL Academy and FC Copa boys and girls teams within FC Copa.  As an organization with 17 years of the historic tradition of developing players of character to succeed in life, we are committed to our people.  We strive to help you have a meaningful internship for your resume, but more importantly, provide each intern with an experience of how a high-level organization runs, particularly in the business of sport.  With that in mind, the following points are directed specifically for you to provide insight and understanding into the roles, the time commitment, the work environment, and the value for you.

What are the expectations?

The ideal candidate will be hardworking and industrious;  a person with a high moral character with some sports background who wants to commit to a collective team effort.  Individuals who will find the most value will be those with an interest in pursuing a sports-related field; from media and communications to sales and marketing to event operations, ticketing, equipment management, and medical.  Positions are offered for college credit and are non-paid.

What does the work entail?

Interns will be involved in all aspects of game-day operations.  Areas of focus may include, uniform and equipment management, assisting medical staff, media and communications, game production, ticket sales and operations, youth player management for pre-game, half time and post-game festivities, merchandise store set up and sales, and complete game day breakdown and clean up.  This is a general list, and other tasks may be included.  Tasks may be moved from one person to another based upon skill set and club needs.

What would be my time commitment?

Most of our home games are doubleheaders with our men’s and women’s teams.  They are mostly weekend games on Saturdays (including holiday weekends).  Interns are expected to commit for all game days from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  Some interns will have the opportunity to work in the FC Copa Academy corporate offices in Metuchen, NJ.  Office hours are 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM while others will be virtual with COVID-19 protocols always held at the forefront.  The level of those commitments will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.  Some interns will also have the opportunity to travel with the team to away games, again on a case-by-case basis depending on roles required.

Where are the games?

All of our home games will be played at Saint Joseph High School in Metuchen, NJ.  While not all positions will offer travel to away games, travel to those locations will be provided and will range throughout the tri-state area with potential postseason games nationwide.

With whom will I be working?

Most of the internship positions are in tandem with other internship positions.  Others are paired with a senior staff member.  All positions are under the direct oversight of FC Copa Senior Staff.

What is the benefit for me?

This internship is an opportunity to glean valuable work experience in a professional sports management environment, and the grassroots level at the same time.  The behind the scenes look at what goes into a professional sporting event is invaluable for you as you pursue your goals in the sports and business career.  You will be positioned to work hard, solve problems, be punctual, communicate effectively and be proactive.  You will have a valuable addition to your resume in a very reputable professional organization as well as a connection with many decades of combined experience across the sports world among FC Copa FC directors, managers and senior staff members.

Once again, we appreciate your interest, and look forward to working with you and mentoring you this Summer as you take the next step in pursuing your goals in this incredible game we all love.  We look forward to hearing from you, and working with you this season.  For questions, contact Jef Thiffault, Dir. of Development and Communications at jef.thiffault@fccopa.com.
